We are more than just a company – we are a proud hidden champion, a medium-sized technology company with a success story spanning decades. It began with the management buyout and the founding of Advanced Ferrite Technology GmbH in Backnang in 1993. The roots go back to 1955, as part of AEG-Telefunken, and later, in the 1980s, of ANT/Bosch.
In 2005 the name was changed to AFT microwave GmbH, where AFT stands for Advanced Ferrite Technology.
The self-developed and produced ferrites continue to be the crucial component and are present in almost every one of our products. Today we are 100% owned by the Müller Investment Group , making us a family-run company and have been for several decades again.
From the beginning, our products were based on the same, continuously refined, technical principle that was first proven in science, primarily in particle accelerators and later also in fusion research. In the late 1990s, we successfully expanded our sphere of influence into industry, particularly in the field of medical technology.
Today we are a long-standing partner of the world’s leading scientific institutions and OEMs in cancer radiotherapy. In addition, we are indispensable for high-tech microwave applications such as cargo scanning, non-destructive testing or sterilization.
Our global presence
We support globally renowned customers in science (particle physics, fusion) and industry (cancer radiotherapy, cargo scan, radar). Our international orientation is also impressive, with around 90% of our double-digit million sales generated abroad, especially in the technology regions of North America, Europe and Asia.
We rely on a network of European suppliers who supply us at our 5,000 m² location in Backnang in the Stuttgart metropolis region (southwest Germany).

In 1969 we developed the first high-power circulator for DESY, Hamburg, since then we have developed and delivered more than 1,000 different circulators and loads to scientific customers worldwide with full dedication to the customer success.
